sites by using search engines. Other surveys show that after email,
search engines are the most popular activity on the web.

hope to get business without advertising or signage? If
your website is not search engine optimized you will not be 'advertising'
to search engines and no one will know even have a website.
Over 85% of all Internet traffic arrives at web sites via Google
and Yahoo and similar sites.
42% of Internet purchases are attributed to surfers that arrive
via Google and Yahoo and similar sites.

search engines, Spider-based
Search Engines, Directory-based Search Engines,
Sponsored Listings, Pay-per-click
advertising, site submission, and a few
basics about the actual 'behind the scenes'
programming built into your website for search engine optimization.
|
 |
Search Engines |
In the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) world, there are 2 basic
types of search engines: Directory-based and
Spider-based.
Yahoo, MSN, and ODP (Open Directory Project) are examples of
directory-based search engines. These directories account for
about 50% of the English speaking search traffic.
Spider based search engines use an indexing technique to catalog
the information on your site and 'score' each page for relevancy.
You can see a complete listing of search engine alliances at
the Search Engine Watch Web site.

Spider Based Search Engines |
What is a spider? A spider travels
through your Web pages looking for
a mixture of components. Once it locates and catalogs everything,
the spider scores each page for relevancy using the search engine's
proprietary algorithm
Search engines guard their algorithm formulas
and change them often to combat spammers. Because of this, it
is sometimes difficult to design a page that will rank well in
all engines. WEBeCORP increases your odds by including all of
the essential elements that spiders
look for.
Optimizing your Web site means nothing if search engine spiders
can't crawl your pages.
WEBeCORP carefully organizes your page content and Web site to
ensure that spiders index the whole thing - not just bits and
pieces.

Directory Based Search Engines |
Submitting to directories can be very easy and usually doesn't
require much effort. The question is though, will your
submission be accepted?
One of the most historically difficult directories to submit
to is Yahoo. Incorrect or unprepared submissions can make the
wait time to be listed in the Yahoo directory extremely long,
sometimes up to six months or longer. There are even stories about
Yahoo editors changing a submission description and ruining the
chances of obtaining high quality referrals.
WEBeCORP can assist your company with this venture. We make sure
your website is in proper condition and develop the best keywords
for your website title and description. Then, we will make the
submission to Yahoo on your behalf.
The submission process takes about 3-4 weeks – then your
listing in Yahoo will start bringing more qualified visitors to
your website. Click here to view

Sponsor Listings / Pay-Per-Click |
Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising is basically a way to increase
your search engine position. It involves paying a small fee each
time a user clicks on your link. This is different from normal
search engine results in that your web site does not have to be
optimized with the essential elements.
Instead, you pay for each user clicking your link as opposed to
each click being free as in typical search results. The biggest
advantage in using pay-per-click advertising is that you can pay
for top placement, rather than leaving your ranking to the mercy
of a search engine's proprietary ranking algorithm.
Rank is determined by a combination of PPC and clickthrough rate.
If an ad is irrelevant to users, they won't click on it and it
will move down the page. Your relevant ads will rise, at no extra
cost to you.
Overture, formerly GoTo until October 2001, is a paid placement
search engine. This means that you can pay to get top placement
for the search terms you want.
Overture is also a paid listings distribution network that provides
its listings to many other search engines. Overture itself estimates
that more than 90 percent of users see its links at their partner
search engines instead of at the Overture site.

Google has developed their own pay-per-click program called Google
AdWords Select. The AdWords program allows listings to appear in
boxes that run along the right-hand side of Google's results page.
These are sold on a self-serve basis, which means you can get started
almost immediately, as long as you have a credit card.

Site Submission |
Promoting your site can entail many hours of form completion
and may involve waiting several weeks or even months to get into
certain directories and search engines.
You should start your website promotion efforts by listing your
site at the most popular Internet directories. Because they can
send you substantial amounts of traffic and affect your ranking
in various search engines, it is wise to make sure that your site
is present in all of the major directories before doing anything
else.
WEBeCORP offers many levels of site promotion services, the basic
starting at $25. Click here for more

Behind the Scenes |
| WEBeCORP increases your odds by
including all of the essential elements that spiders look for.
Enhanced 'TITLE' tags - A typical
title tag would look like this in the HTML code:
<TITLE>WEBeCORP Business Solutions</TITLE>
WEBeCORP creates Enchaced 'TITLE' Tags thoughout your website for
expanded information to spiders. Such as:
<TITLE>WEBeCORP | Better communication, better business. :
Website development and more!</TITLE>
Expanded META tags - What is a 'META tag'? The
term META is from metadata, which means data about other data. Search
engines use META tags to help determine the content and value of
your Web page content. META tags describe your content. There are
many different types of META tags used throughout your website.
A few include: META description, META keywords, META expires, META
Author, and many more.
META tags provide important, useful information
about your site. They are one of the easiest ways to give your site
a boost with some search engines.
WEBeCORP can help you choose META tags with informative, well-written
descriptions and targeted keywords as an integral part of your promotional
strategy.
Not all search engines use META tags at all to
rank sites. Here's a partial list of who uses META tags.
| Search Engine |

| AltaVista |

| Direct Hit |

| Google |

| Excite |

| HotBot |

| Lycos |

Header Tags - A header tag is
used to define a standard font size thoughout a website. WEBeCORP
uses header tags throughout your site to provide a 'page map' structure
for spiders.
Keywords - Keywords are individual words entered within
a META tag that let you provide information to spiders about your
content and how it is relevant to specific, targeted users. When
a visitor does a search through a search engine, they enter words
or combined words for their search. These words are directly related
to the keywords on your website pages. Relevant, targeted keywords
can get you to the top of search engine rankings and help you attract
visitors interested in your web site's content and products. WEBeCORP
can offer suggestions for your keyword selection based
on your business type and target market.
Links - Link popularity is a very interesting factor in
your sites ranking. Led by Google, many search engines include your
link popularity score in the algorithms they use to determine your
site's rank.
